Canyon Lake Reservoir - "The Lake"

Canyon Lake is a one-of-a-kind place with a lake that the residents and their guests can enjoy year round for boating, water sports, and a variety of other activities.  Homes dot the shoreline throughout the community and each are allowed their own personal dock to keep their boat at permanently through the year.  The lake is fed by the San Jacinto watershed and is under the authority of the Lake Elsinore Municipal Water District.  The dam at the south end of the main lake is what makes the reservoir possible and during heavy rains, it's an incredible sight to see the water flowing over the dam spillway after the lake is full.  In the summer, lake temperatures can reach the mid 80's making for a very comfortable swim or soak.

The Main Lake

Canyon Lake CaliforniaThe Main Lake which runs primarily north and south is the largest area of water and the primary area for higher speed water sports like water skiing and wakeboarding.  But the shoreline and coves are great areas for swimming, paddling, and fishing, all of which are allowed in different areas of the lake.

For general boating, the allowable speed limit is 35 mph.  For skiing and wakeboarding, everyone proceeds in a counter clockwise direction around the lake.  Areas closer to the shoreline are designated as 5mph zones and some of the large coves are ideal for anchoring and hanging out for the day.

The Main Lake is home to several events each year like Fiesta Day, The Mermaid Festival, Ski Shows, and others.

The East Bay

Canyon Lake East BayThe entire East Bay which runs east to west is a 5mph no-wake zone.  The quiet calm water is ideal for cruising, paddling, swimming, and fishing and it's common to see flotillas in the larger bays and coves during the summer holidays and weekends.

The beloved boat tunnel at the west end travels under the road and allows boaters in the East Bay to get to the Main Lake.

The East Bay is also home to a few events each year like the Peddle and Paddle Regatta.

Owning a home on the East Bay is special because the calm mornings and evenings make enjoying the lake extra special. Don't be surprised to see fish jumping, turtles swimming and plenty of local waterfowl.

Drop your paddleboard in just before sunset and take a cruise the length of the East Bay for a relaxing workout with amazing sunsets.

North Ski Area

Canyon Lake North Ski AreaThe North Ski Area is reserved for ski training and competitions and has a full time regulation slalom course set up.  At the very north end of the North Ski Lake, there is also an area called "The Backwater" where serious wakeboarders and wake surfers can do their thing as the Main Lake has some restrictions on wake size and wake enhancing devices.

The North Ski Area is often home to events like "Learn to Ski" or "Learn to Ride" as well as ski competitions.  There is is a separate boat launch ramp for this part of the lake and boat and trailer parking areas as well.

Located at the north end of Canyon Lake next to the fire station.

Ski Jump Lagoon

The Ski Jump Lagoon is a small lake on the west side of the community with a regulation ramp reserved for trick skiers and jumpers.  The area is only accessible off of Longhorn Dr by residents who have a key to the facilities.  The lagoon can be viewed from the road so you might see some high flying jumpers occasionally during events or practice sessions.

The following water sports are allowed in Canyon Lake in designated areas:
